Observer: FM

Meteorological Analysis: Satellite imagery paints quite a complicated weather pattern across the region. With the help of the descending scatterometry passes that afternoon, we can observe a surface trough stretching laterally along the Ryukyu islands, an indicator of an approaching warm front from a nearby quasi-stationary system that is common at this time of year. A few other subtle troughs are observed off the southern coasts of Honshu, which interact with the sinking and diffused clouds induced by a minor high pressure system off the northern coasts facing the Sea of Japan. As such, an upper-level halo may be observed from the ground across Honshu due to the cirrus filaments covering most of Japan. This kind of pattern is conducive for minor orthographically influenced eddies along the southern shores of central Honshu.
