About Tenkikai
Tenkikai brings official U.S. National Weather Service forecasts and tropical hazard information for the Western Pacific into one app, built for the Marianas (Guam, Saipan, Rota, Tinian), the Republic of Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia (Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae), and the Republic of the Marshall Islands (Majuro). The app is free, works without an account, and is available in English, 日本語, and 한국어. Tenkikai is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any government agency.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tenkikai free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it’s free, and no account or sign-in is required.
How do I turn on weather alerts?
Tap the bell icon on the region menu (or open Notifications in Settings), choose the region(s) you want alerts for, and allow notifications when iOS asks. Critical alerts are time-sensitive and can break through Focus and Do Not Disturb.
I’m not receiving notifications. What should I check?
- Open the iOS Settings app → Tenkikai → Notifications and make sure they’re allowed.
- In Tenkikai, confirm you’ve subscribed to at least one region (the bell shows a badge when you’re subscribed).
- Make sure your device has an internet connection.
- Alerts are only sent when the National Weather Service actually issues one for your region — quiet weather means no notifications.
Does the app track my location?
No. Tenkikai never asks for or uses your device’s GPS location. You choose your region manually. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I change the language?
Open Settings from the bottom toolbar and choose English, 日本語, or 한국어. The app interface updates immediately. Official NWS warnings, watches, and advisories are always shown in the original English wording issued by the forecast office.
Why is the satellite image a little old?
Himawari satellite imagery is published on a delay by its provider; a lag of roughly 30–45 minutes from real time is normal.
The forecast or radar won’t load.
This is almost always a temporary network issue, on your connection or at the data source. Check your internet connection and try again in a few minutes. If it persists, email us with the region and what you’re seeing.
Community weather reports
Tenkikai lets you share what the weather is doing where you are, and see reports from others on the map. Reporting is optional.
How do I submit a report?
Tap Report in the bottom toolbar, choose a display name, tap the map to place your report, pick the conditions you’re seeing, and submit.
Community guidelines
- Report only real weather conditions, as accurately as you can.
- Don’t include personal information in your display name — reports are shown publicly to other users.
- No offensive, misleading, harassing, or abusive content.
Reports that break these guidelines may be removed, and abusive reporters may be blocked from submitting.
Report an inappropriate community report
If you see a community report that is offensive, abusive, or otherwise inappropriate, email support@tenkikai.co with a short description (and the display name or location if you can). We review reports of objectionable content and remove anything that violates our guidelines, typically within 24 hours. You can also email us to remove a report you submitted yourself.
Where the weather data comes from
Tenkikai displays public information from trusted sources:
- U.S. National Weather Service / NOAA (WFO Guam) — forecasts, the Area Forecast Discussion, watches/warnings/advisories, and tides
- CIRA at Colorado State University — Himawari satellite imagery
- Iowa Environmental Mesonet — radar
- Guam Homeland Security / Office of Civil Defense — special bulletins
