This Privacy Policy explains how the TenkikaiWx app (“TenkikaiWx,” “we,” “us”) handles information. TenkikaiWx is a weather app for the Western Pacific. It works without an account, and it never reads your device’s GPS location. The only information we receive is what you choose to send us — for optional push notifications and optional community weather reports, described below.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.
  • We do not request or use your device’s location services (GPS). The app never asks for location permission.
  • We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
  • We do not access your contacts, photos, calendar, microphone, or camera.
  • We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.

Information We Process for Push Notifications

Push notifications are optional. If — and only if — you enable notifications, the app sends the following to our notification server (hosted at tenkikai.co) so we can deliver the alerts you asked for:

  • An Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token — a random identifier Apple assigns so alerts can reach your device. It is not your name, email, phone number, or account.
  • The region(s) you subscribed to (for example, Marianas or Palau).
  • Your chosen alert sound and home island preference.

This information is used solely to send you the weather alerts you requested. If you turn notifications off, or delete the app, the token stops working and is no longer used to reach you.

Community Weather Reports

Tenkikai includes an optional community reporting feature: you can share what the weather is doing where you are, and see what others have shared. Nothing is sent unless you submit a report yourself. When you submit a report, the app sends to our server:

  • The display name you chose for reporting (a nickname you type in — it does not have to be your real name, and we recommend it not be).
  • A map location you pick by tapping the map. This is the spot you choose to attach your report to — the app cannot read your device’s actual GPS position. Tap accuracy is up to you; you may place the pin as precisely or as loosely as you like.
  • Your weather observation — the conditions you selected (for example showers, thunderstorms, lightning), their strength, and any vortex sighting.
  • A one-way hashed device identifier, used only to rate-limit submissions and deter spam. It is a cryptographic hash (SHA-256); it contains no personal details and cannot be reversed into your device token.

Reports are public. Your display name, the pinned location, the observation, and the submission time are shown on the in-app map to other Tenkikai users for a limited window of time. Please don’t include personal information in your display name.

Weather Data Sources

Tenkikai displays public weather information by requesting it directly from third-party sources. When your device loads this data, those providers receive standard network request information (such as your IP address), as happens with any website you visit. We do not send them any personal information about you. These providers include:

  • U.S. National Weather Service / NOAA — forecasts, alerts, tides (weather.gov, tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov)
  • CIRA at Colorado State University — satellite imagery (cira.colostate.edu)
  • Iowa Environmental Mesonet — radar (mesonet.agron.iastate.edu)
  • Guam Homeland Security / Office of Civil Defense — bulletins (ghs.guam.gov)

Their handling of that request data is governed by their own privacy policies. Tenkikai is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by these agencies.

Data Stored Only on Your Device

Your settings — such as selected region, language, theme, and notification preferences — are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to us except as described above for push notifications and community reports.

Children’s Privacy

Tenkikai is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Data Retention

We retain a push token only while it is active for delivering your notifications; tokens that become invalid (for example, after you disable notifications or uninstall the app) are removed from active use. Community reports are retained so recent observations can be shown on the map, and older reports age out of the in-app views. You may request deletion of your reports at any time via support@tenkikai.co.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
